2012 dominates the box office!

I guess the end of the world is what people are into these days.
This weekends box office was dominated by the new Sony Pictures disaster flick, 2012, which brought in an impressive $65 million over the weekend, and $160 million overseas! Wow. The movie stars John Cusack and Danny Glover and was directed by Roland Emmerich, who brought us other disaster movies like Independence Day and The Day After Tommorow.
Last weeks number one movie, Disney’s A Christmas Carol had a strong second week showing, finishing with$22.3 million, while George Clooney’s The Men Who Stare at Goats finished in third with only $6.2 million.
Following closely behind was Precious. The Oprah Winfrey backed movie, while still only being shown in limited release (174 theatres compared to 2012’s 3,404 theatres), finished with more rave reviews and $6.1 million at the box office.
Michael Jackson’s This Is It finished in fifth with $5.1 million, bringing it’s domestic total to $67.2 million, making it the top grossing music documentary of all time.
