Actresses Shirley Temple and Olivia Newton-John, former First Ladies Betty Ford and Nancy Reagan, Sopranos‘ “Carmela” Edie Falco, even Shaft’s Richard Roundtree was diagnosed with the deadly disease.

Shortly after she had been diagnosed with cancer, Christina Applegate had to undergo surgery, a bilateral mastectomy, which is a procedure performed to remove both of her breasts, so that the deadly disease wouldn’t spread through her body.

She still has reconstructive surgery to go through, but the 36 year-old actor is hopeful. She even made jokes about the outcome of her ordeal: “I’m going to have the best boobs in the nursing home. I’m going to be the envy of all the ladies around the bridge table.”

Applegate is scheduled to appear in Stand Up To Cancer, a one-hour TV special next September 5th, to help raise money for cancer.
